Ranger's Apprentice: Oakleaf Bearers

Quote-leftThis book is published as The Battle for Skandia in the US which in my opinion is a more descriptive (and hence, better) title than Oakleaf Bearers. It tells of our heroes from Araluen fighting alongside former enemies, the Skandians, against the barbaric and deadly warriors Temujai.

This is another action-packed volume in the Ranger's Apprentice series. Will and Horace's skills as an archer and warrior respectively grow, as do their bond as friends. I sorely felt the the absence of Gilan in this book (he's one of my favourite characters) but Erak's expanded role more than fills the gap. Evanlyn also takes on a more central role (attracting the attention of both Will and Horace), as she becomes less of a damsel in distress and more of the Araluen queen she would eventually become.

The bittersweet, sentimental ending will leave you wanting for more.Quote-right

Quote-leftWhy has it's name been changed to "Battle of Skandia?" Anyway, fantastic book for those who like a bit of battle srategy (not me, but I can see why it is my 13 year old son's favourite in the series)Quote-right
