actually he did die. at least as a horcrux. just after he died and got rid of the last part of voldemort's soul he could then kill off voldemort. that is what was meant by "neither can live while the other survives".
After all that poor Harry Potter has experienced in his life... he better win, lol! But seriously, of course Harry won, he basically was born to defeat the Dark Lord. The thing is that we know J.K. Rowling is realistic, so obviously the road to finally defeating Voldemort was long, bloody, and real. Loved ones died, many of the students were killed in the big showdown at Hogwarts, plus countless others. J.K's constant theme of love, determination, and loyalty will always be relevant; especially since it's not always easy to uphold those qualilties and even when you do, bad things can/will still happen. Those who claim J.K got too dark as the series progressed need to wake up and greet the real world. Children will always grow up, there's nothing to be done about it. There are still those who can't believe someone would write about children/young adults facing any kind of danger, much less, the mortal peril like in HP. Everyone instills in their children from early childhood to stay away from strangers, well books like HP show kids that they are smart and it's ok to be curious and aware of what is going on around you. Ok.. let me stop before I ramble on even more. ^_^
My sister was certain that he would die- but I knew he would not. I always told her that everyone around him is susceptible to dying- when it comes to the people in his live there are now rules on them dying. But Harry would not die. JK Rowling would have been REALLY stupid to kill him off.
Well, what matters is the book was good...you know what's gonna happen at the end of a lot of books, that doesn't necesarilly spoil them or make them bad =p
here here! JK's books were heading in a dark direction because there was a war starting in the magical world. it would be stupid if she sugar coated everything. her books show that good things do happen to you, but at the expense of things you love, which is true about the world. i think that you're absolutely right in every way. and by the way, this book is called HARRY POTTER, not HOGWARTS. no one said she was obliged to keep the story hogwarts centerd. it even said in the 6th book that he wasnt coming back for his 7th year, so why would they put it in hogwarts without harry? i hate it when people base their comments [ not you marisol] on one book in a 7-part series. there are no loose ends, she answered every question and if ur still confused , re-reading is a powerful thing to do. any more questions, just re-read the other books and they answer some of the questions.
Of course we know what was going to happen in the end, just like we knew the Titanic was going to sink, but millions of people still kept THAT movie in theaters for nine months!
The reason we enjoy these stories and read or watch them is not because of what happens, but why it happens. Most people had guessed that Snape would turn out to be good in the end, but the important part of the story was why he was good. There are lots of books that I find have predictable plots, but I thoroughly enjoy because the reasons behind the choices and events - the struggle of the characters - are what really drive the story.
omg! you are so right!! there are no loose ends!!! i actually read the whole series after i finished book 7, and then re-read it again!!!
i'm telling you!!! they whole series is so tight that it somehow seems she wrote the whole thing as one big book. people and things that are mentioned on the first books are mentioned and explained on the last one.
OF COURSE!!!! as true fans we wanted more. so much more. we wanted some happly ever after story... i wanted to know for example how was hermione's last year in howgarts without harry and ron... I wanted to know how harry was as a godfather to Teddy... there was so much more i wanted to know... and maybe if I kept this way of thinking i would have hated the ending of the book because it gave me nothing like it!! but on the other hand i know those things are not as important as the questions that were answered... for example, about Snape and his love and devotion to Lily till the end of his life. Everything about Dumbledore's life... i think DH is an amazing book and a great ending to a series.
i would not have hated it if harry really died in the end. i really thought it was a possibility specially because JKR made a valuable point; she didn't want other writers writing about him. and killing him off could prevent that somehow. but also we have to agree that this is also business and questioning the fact that harry could live or die was powerful marketing. I'm sure people were reading the book just to know if he would survive or not. that was the big question and i'm sure that alone my friends sold millions of books.
you know... i'm gonna miss the books... the story... the whole harry potter world... at least for a while we will have the movies.
I share your sentiments exactly! Especially that last point about missing Harry Potter and I also will be holding on hard to the last 3 movies to come. (Remember: Deathly Hallows will be made in two parts! Thank goodness to that, after reading DH and mourning the end I automatically feared that the movie could not possibly live up to the book. So they better not ruin it since they have the space of two feature films to work with!!)
this has got to be by far the best series that i have read in a long time....everything came together in the end and it ended well.
these books keep you reading from start to finish and if you say other wise then you are not really reading it.
for j.k. rowling to continue the books later on in life as lets say harry potters sons or something would be redundint.
the 7 book series is all you need to keep you going for along time.
i will enjoy reading these books over and over again and then watching my daughter read them when she gets to be of age( which will be soon and she can't wait herself)
no loose ends, my ass. can anyone explain why filch was ever hired, let alone allowed to stay after repeatedly threatening to, trying to, and succeeding in torturing the students? and what was up with all of the super-intelligent cats, and why were they never explained, at least in passing?
That's true if harry had died in the end that would have been stupid and pointless. the ending was very obvious. my mother isn't even done with the book and already guessed most of the ending right.
Yeah it was kind of obvious that he was going to win, but we all wanna know how
Diana about 1 year agocan you imagine - millions of traumatised children (and a fair few adults) if Harry had died
and you don't kill off the cash cow do you?
one day harry will return - or maybe son of harry!!
Amanda about 1 year agoor maybe the dark lord :D
Elinor about 1 year agoNo, he was never going to die, and the pre-release murmurings in the media about the possibility of his death were annoying and hysterical.
