  • Did anyone really not see this coming?

Hey Monica: I think Dumbledore showed kindness to Filch for the same reason he told Sirius to show kindness to Kreacher; Filch is a Squib and Kreacher is a house-elf, and their horrible dispositions are products of the prejudice and poor treatment they experienced all their lives just for being what they are. They are still apart of the magical world and they both had vital information that could definitely compromise the fight against evil. Which is why they took the opportunity for revenge when they got the chance, for both of them it was in Order of the Phoenix: When Dumbledore left Hogwarts there was no one else who showed any respect to Filch and then there's Umbridge who treated him as a valued individual (of course it was so he could spy for her, etc.) and he quickly jumped on her bandwagon. Kreacher is a poor creature (no pun intended) who spent who knows how many years serving horrible people and then decades with only a mad portrait of his deceased mistress as his company, so when he took Sirius's command (when he told Kreacher, "Out!") to heart and used it as a loop-hole to actually leave the house, he went to the next oldest relative, Bellatrix, and was completely taken over by the bit of sweet-talking he got from her, and we know how that ended up. Basically Filch and Kreacher are results of society and they were starved for any bit of kindness and validation. Filch found love with Madame Pince (the librarian) and we saw a soft side of him; and when Harry finally realized that Dumbledore and Hermione were right and he saw Kreacher for the intelligent, emotional, and self-less being that he is, Kreacher quickly became full of joy and found a purpose again. Lastly, about the super-intelligent cats, if you mean Crookshanks (Hermione's cat) it's because he is part Kneazle, which accounts for his unusual intelligence and his ability to identify suspicious characters (most notably Peter Pettigrew disguised as Scabbers). I hope I answered your questions and I'm sorry if I rambled ^_^.

ok i for one think that we all should have figured she was going to end the story the way she did. i mean i would like to see one person who has read all the books tell me that harry was not a horcrux. it was plain as day the moment i read the half blood prince it was figured out. but i thought the deathly hallows was a literary achevment. the only part that i found out of place is that she jumped 19 years into the future to end it all. but there is no way there can be another book. you would have to be mad to think otherwise. i mean who is the next book going to be about the son of harry. and who is he going to fight. that would just be overkill. let it be the series is done.

I knew that Harry wasn't going to die. If J.K. Rowling did kill off Harry, she would have a flock of enraged fangirls at her door. Also it would make the story be wasted. But I would have liked it better had she not put in the ending with everyone happy, and the those poorly named children. But other than that, it was a great book, and I didn't see much of it coming. Like, for example, the death of Dobby.

Yes, poor dear loyal Dobby! That made me cry.
I kind of agree as regards the epilogue but part of me liked it too. Still in two minds on that score.
I liked how by the time Hermione kissed Ron I had almost forgotten that that story-line was still there... so much else was going on that it kind of took me by surprise :)

I felt the same way, LOL! I had pretty much given up on Hermione and Ron having "the moment" and I was completely taken by surprise. Ron matured just in time ^_^

Ummmn, no. for a while I was thinking that she would kill him off. If he had to sacrificed himself (as he did0 and then died, it would've been sad but justified. What if Voldy could only die when Harry sacrificed himself? oh wait, that was the plot. Yeah, I was a bit disappointed that JK took the easy way out and then sugarcoated it with the epilogue.

I believe that I read somewhere that she put the epilogue in to fox the people who would want to read the last page of the book to see what happened.
