Does anyone else think Harry Potter 7 was rubbish?
Does anyone else think Harry Potter 7 was rubbish?
I mean, the whole point of the series was a school for wizards, and Hogwarts is hardly in the book!
Also, Snape (by far the best and deepest character in the series) dies, and Voldemort was given a crappy backstory (based on the fact that I can't remember it. And I would have remembered it if it was vaguely interesting).
I was really disappointed too. I've had the book for a year and I couldn't finish reading it, I quit about midway. Even my kids don't want to read it.
Vicki Claudio about 1 year agoThere were defiantly some loose ends, for instance, how in the world did he kill the snake-horcrux with the goblin sword? How did he know to use it and how did he get it? I thought all those people dieing in battle really had no place in a generally happy fun book about a wonderful wizarding school. Especially since they just showed up dead, and if they are such good wizards there is no real reason they would have died in battle.
Dara about 1 year agoYou should have payed more attention then! Obviously the book was way to complicated for you! Anyway the book is called HARRY POTTER not Hogwarts. The story (believe it or not) is about a boy called Harry Potter. Not a school.
Becky about 1 year agoI dont think there was enough dieing, I was expecting a full on wizard war like WWIII or something. But all we get is a little battle here or there... kinda lame really...
Joey about 1 year agoI stopped reading Harry Potter 7 during the middle of the book where he, Hermione, and Ron ended up at the Seaside Shack. It just got too boring for me. I lost interest and never found out what happened. Oh, well.
Alexandra about 1 year agoI really didnt like the 7th book. She dragged the book so much that it was boring in the middle. She also killed a lot of people for no reason. The ending was very obvious
Sofia about 1 year agoI really don't like parts of the book, like all the deads, the end and the fact that it give us more questions instead of answers; but i like it, it was a good end to the serie.
Diana about 1 year agoI just cry a lot with this book, specially with the death of Dobby and Remus. (I know it sounds a little childish but i was 13 when i read it)
what do you mean, 7?
Facebook User about 1 year agoThe book sucked! I was like, wth does Voldemort die? harry wasnt even grievously injured during the final battle (which was REALLY cliche), yet half the school died. And i did not get the part about the goblin sword, it seemed like there were at least 3 swords and I couldn't keep track of who had what!
Anonymous User about 1 year agoread the book... then you wouldn't find any loose ends... -_- first of all, Harry wasn't the one who killed the snake-horcrux.. it was Neville. the sword was used by Harry in the second book to kill the basilisk which was really poisonous and deadly. the book mentions that the sword was made by goblins and that goblin made weapons retain in them whatever that could strengthen it so now it already has basilisk poison imbued in its blade. and also if u remember, Dumbledore said that only a true Gryfindor... someone who shows the characteristics of a true Gryffindor can get the sword out of the sorting hat. again... READ THE BOOK... plus what's the use of a battle if no one dies? have u ever heard of a war where no one dies at all? no one is perfect
Kimberly about 1 year agoI thought it was easy to predict what was to come as, like most children stories, it was heavily archetypal. Harry, our valient hero, had many trials and tribulations to overcome in order to be the great source of good to equal the supposed source of evil, Voldemort.
Many of those deaths were necessary, both in establishing the hero as well as bringing an end to the story. Without Remus, Sirius, James, Lilly, and Albus being murdered, Harry never would have done all he did, nor could Harry, Ron, and Hermione truly succeed as the next generation of wizards and witches.
Many of the "plot holes" are really just details. I too questioned where the sword came from to kill Voldemort's snake, but it was only a distraction to the true story.
Facebook User about 1 year agooh i think it was a cart load of rubbish.jkr has done better in the past. the final duel... of ONE spell??? Severus Snape ,the character shrouded in ambiguity and facination has no more than a 5 real scenes.... rubbish story about dumblydore that has no more use to the plot than to fill the pages....harry..hermiony...ron only 3 main characters....no remus...no hagrid... no mad eye... of any importance to the plot.. the all die[just like that]...all deaths seem made up...just for dying sake[unlike in the cases of sirius and albus who made sense to be dead]
Anonymous User about 1 year agoi think the entire series was thrown to the dogs with this last instalment. jkr cant depict action and avoids it using excuses like the deathly hallows... she cant give real duellin.. page turning action....only teenage emotions
I can understand where a lot of people on this post are coming from as to explain why they think this book is rubbish. One person noted that the series is actually entitled 'The _____ Year at Hogwarts', and although there is a lack of the school in it's entirety, I think it makes up for it at the end.
Anonymous User about 1 year agoTo all those who think that it was slow in the end, I think you need to really start reading more books, because there are these things called 'exposition' and 'plot development'. JKR has stated that she never includes in these books that is not important. It did seem to lag in action in the middle, but for those who enjoy the over-all series, then it was not such much lagging as it was insightful of the Trio.
What I loved about this book was the introduction of the Deathly Hallows, her explanation and how it was never rushed for us to understand it, and how it is a slap in the face to know that we all have been staring at them the entire time throughout the series.
Note: Chapter 34 has got to be one of the best chapters to a book I've ever read.
Finally, we live in a society where we our low attention span calls for violence to entertain, which makes sense why a lot of people hated the final duel. Let me make this clear: the point of a Duel is not a huge, Mortal Kombat-style death match, a duel is about killing your opponent before they kill you, and generally duels are with swords or guns. Guns have the power to kill someone fast. And in Harry Potter, wands can kill people fast too. So rather than be disappointed in how short is was, why not appreciate the actual build-up towards, what with the wands (I was impressed JKR DID that) and the simplicity of Voldemart's demise.
In short, I feel that this book is rubbish for those who are not perennial readers, just those who want an book equivalent for a plotless, brainless action movie.
nooooway jose. it was AMAZING.
Rosie about 1 year agoActually, I disagree. The series is mostly about Hogwarts, but it's primarily about Harry Potter (as shown in the titles). I think that putting Harry back in school would have been pointless - imagine what he would have been doing, sitting in classes, having petty arguments with misunderstanding friends, feeling funny about girls, it would be a complete teen flat. The story was weak with Hermione-Ron moments, just because they bore me a little bit when they're not funny, and definitely the killer in the book was the epilogue, which should have been BURNED. But Voldemort's backstory was actually my favorite part of the series after the marauders. And, of course, Snape is awesome, and I think it's great when he dies, a perfect tragedy; definitely my favorite character.
Samantha about 1 year agoActually, this book was probably one of my favorites in the series. The epilogue, however, was lame as all hell.
Laura Hubbard about 1 year agoYes, it definitely was a piece of crap. I read it, and have never been struck by the urge to re-read it. There were a lot of random things thrown in there, and the entire thing felt sort of hacked together in a rush to connect everything and finish the series in under 1000 pages.
Anonymous User about 1 year agoI thought the book was horrible. She tried to fit too many things into the book and ended up coming up very short on plot. She should have made an 8th book as there were too many questions left unanswered. That went on the entire book not just in the end. VERY disappointing.
Facebook User about 1 year agoI didn't like the seventh book as much as the other books. Lupin, Tonks, Fred, and some of my other favorite characters died. The last straw as when Snape died and I felt sympathic for him when I learned about his love for Lily. It made me wish that Lily had chosen Snape instead of James because he sounded like he was a jerk.
