Harry Potter series is a somewhat nice offering(excluding last 3 books)for kids. But is it really anything more than that?I really think that it is very very overrated.
The first one was the best. They gradually became worse as the series progressed. Yea it ia totally overrated although the first one or two might actually be considered classics in the future.
Yes. The first few were fun, light reads. But the last three books weren't really very well written at all. No real character development. Glaring plot holes. Wandering storylines. They just aren't well written.
None of the books were particularly well-written. But they were fun, imaginative stories that got people around the world to actually shut off their TV sets for a while and pick up a book...and for that, I am thankful.
I believe it is a classic series. I think if anyone believe it is overrated, having after read the entire series, then they missed many of the delicate intricacies of the series. The are so many detail and elements that are connected, without being explicitly mentioned. These are what make the books fantastic.
It is also fantastic how the level of difficulty increases as the series goes on and as the characters grow. The last book really seals the Harry Potter series as a timeless classic. Also, the fact that so many who haven't read or did not like to read, have picked up these books speaks for itself.
Whoever said it's a fad has nooooooo idea of the enormous fandom and the attachment that readers have to the series and to the characters. The series began in 1998, so alot of people have been fans for a good chunk of their life, it's a part of their childhood. I think that the tension in the last three books definitely caused people to not like them as much, but it think it lead up to a great ending, (I personally LOVE the seventh but don't like the sixth)
The series also conveys a great message to the reader and your can really learn a lot about courage, integrity, and friendship among other things.
I dont think they were overrated. I think some people blow them out of proportion- as a reader you should know that its fiction and magic isnt real-and for the longest time peoples lives revolved around these books (myself included :) But, there's a point when people need to move on. It was fantastic that they got more people to be intersted in books and they've become an obsession like lord of the rings and star wars. Either way, the books were epic and, beyond the great storyline and plot, it did contain a lot of symbolism; in the future i could see it becoming a classic.
I don't think that the books are overrated. It must have taken a great deal of determination to write a series of books (some thousands of pages) over a course of 12 years. That alone is an incredible achievement. And as a few other people have said, it is brilliant that she has got a generation of computer-mad children reading again. But I do think that there are other books that are equally, or more, deserving of the kind of hype that the Harry Potter series has received. Works of true literature that can have a life-changing effect on people, rather than the typical lowbrow fiction that is so popular. It is a bit of a sad reflection on society that it took a book like Harry Potter to get people reading.
Absolutely not! It's an amazing, engaging series. Rowling created a world where readers can lose themselves and characters that will remain relevant for years. She was also very savvy to write books that "grew up" along with the characters: what started as a children's series became something adored by people of all ages all over the world. So it's not Shakespeare. Any positive thing that brings people together that way and encourages usual non-readers to look forward to a book is not overrated.
Ok, so maybe it's not a brooding, deep, and complex work of literature. However, I say that any book series that has encouraged vast numbers of children to keep reading instead of turning completely into video freaks is well worth it. In today's society, a book that keeps kids reading is not overrated.
No. It is not overrated, because of how the series has been capitalized. Sure there are video games, movies, and toys but to call Harry Potter overrated is to call Star Wars overrated. Remember there is no reality show about Harry Potter, which is settling. If Harry Potter is overrated, then why is there such an underground cult following.
So think of it this way: if you call Harry Potter overrated, would you call Star Wars and Lord of the Rings overrated?
SO not overrated best thing that was ever written (with few classic exceptions) it is amazing and when somebody screams OMG!!! I LOVE HARRY POTTER! don't take it lightly cause it is true especially after your first reading.
NO! So not overrated. Its amazing!!! :) I love all of them...ESPECIALLY the last three. The fifth book is like my secondary Bible.
