    Hoo boy, there is some really cliched, terrible writing in here. Tons of unattributed gossip. I would rate the political coverage as slightly smarter than a Letterman monologue and somewhere north of a Colbert or Stewart. I mean, seriously, they refer to the campaign staffs - not once, but consistently - as Hilaryland, McCainiacs and Obamans. Like nails across a chalkboard every time. As Norman Mailer wrote, "Once a genius, twice a pervert."

    Re-read this recently after having not picked it since being a wee impressionable lad growing up in Vietnam-era Berkeley and fed a diet of 'classic' science fiction and other early 60s touchstomes. This may be considered a classic of the genre, sure, but hoo-boy is it dated. Clunky dialogue, silly Star Trek (original flavor) stories and a vision of America trapped in mid-50s suburban idealism.     An entertaining and detailed look into the real life of the NFL's players. Throughout the book, Fatsis convincingly drives home that media coverage of the NFL presents a story that is very little like the actual experience of its participants. If you want the real deal - especially about QBs, Ks and Ps - this is the book for you. (It's a bit short in discussing other positions.)
