This is an amazing book. In typical Stephenson style, the story integrates quite a few concepts and ideas in wildly different thought areas: philosophy, technology, religion, language, metaphysics and hard science fiction. What's more impressive is that, after overcoming an initial hurdle of internalizing the books vocabulary, I just couldn't put it down.
On every page, Anathem challenged me to revisit my own assumptions about these areas as it wove a brilliant tale of daring, courage, love and philosophy. I was in awe with its ability to lead the reader through the dangerous straits of its logic and socialpolitical interactions while making you really identify with the protagonist and the other major characters in the book.
I highly recommend this book.
The Shock Doctrine is a fascinating read. While I was reading it, I was totally drawn in and I couldn't get enough.. but I do have to say after a few months of distance I can say that the book makes some very far-fetched claims. With that in mind though, I can still recommend it as an interesting and thought-provoking read.
Absolutely my favorite book. I love everything Neal Stephenson writes.
I am really liking this book so far. I am eating it up!
